The story of the show revolves around a young 26-year-old man named Takemichi Hanagaki. Due to various reasons, Takemichi is currently a freeter and is leading a distraught and sad life. However, his already troubled life becomes even worse when takemichi finds out that his middle school girlfriend Hinata Tachibana and her younger brother Naoto were brutally murdered by a notoriously dangerous gang named Tokyo Manji.
As Takemichi is contemplating their deaths, he is all of sudden pushed in front of an oncoming train; however, instead of getting killed, he is mysteriously transported 12 years in the past. That is, he is transported back to his middle school. Knowing that this might be his only chance at saving the lives of his girlfriend and her brother, Takemichi reveals the truth to Naoto. However, as soon as Takemichi holds Naoto’s hands, he is transported back into the future.
With the help of their knowledge from both the past and the present, Takemichi travels back and forth in time to undo everything that has happened in the past 12 years to ensure that Hinata and his friends are not killed in the future.
